An afternoon of learning how to make a felt vertebra and how surprisingly relaxing and satisfying stabbing is! For National Back Week in October 2023, Fusion members Janet Philp and Joan Smith are making a collaborative artwork based on the human spine and they invited everyone to participate. The artwork will incorporate around 100 individual, needle felted vertebrae in a sculptural installation which will be unveiled at an event in the University of Edinburgh’s Anatomy Lecture Theatre in October 2023. The names of participants in the project will be credited alongside the artwork. The launch event will also feature talks on the human back by Professor of Anatomy Tom Gillingwater (University of Edinburgh) and Edinburgh based back specialist Gavin Routledge. |

Jar in Action
We asked members to bring a jar from home of any shape or size and decorate the inner and/or outer contents with artwork that relates to sustainability. Attendees brought jars with growing flax seeds, crystals, and even one that produces energy! At the meeting we discussed the meaning behind each art-in-a-jar and the group made suggestions for any modifications. These jars will soon make an elaborate united display to inspire and question sustainability. |
